from squeaky clean to worn and comfy

creating your own grunge

by jackie eckles

I really love grunge and usually want to keep adding more and more to papers and photos.  Grunge can add warmth and depth to almost any layout – just like aged leather that has more dimension and interest to it, a grunged layout can help the clean lines of your design pop out. Here’s how you can create a grunge overlay for your pages.

  1. First you need to open a document and create a new layer.
  2. Load the brushes that you want to “stamp” with by selecting the Brush tool from the toolbox. Then load new brushes or choose preset brushes from the brush pop-up palette.
I used standard Adobe Brushes Natural 2. You want to choose a brush that is oddly shaped and not solid to add the grunge to the page so that it will look a little random on the final overlay.
